Look forward to another exciting and coruscating Athletic Heat Track and Field award ceremony, where Nigerian Track and Field stars come out dazzling and on fleek, which was brought to fruition by the ever diligent and conscientious Athletic Heat Executives.
This week marks the opening of the voting process for the 2021 Athletic Heat Track and Field Awards. An impressive list of first-time nominees is in the race for the different awards categories such as the U15 athlete of the year, U18 athlete of the year male and female, the Senior athlete of the year male, Social media personality of the year, Para-athlete of the year amongst other categories.
The nominations of these award categories, reflect the remarkable range of exceptional performances the sport has witnessed this year and they were selected by a team of credible Athletics personalities such as the Former AFN Technical Director, Comdr. Neshama Omatseye, Athletes’ Representative of the AFN, Dr. Henry Okorie, Coach Olu Sule amongst other respected personalities.
Of the over 90 shortlisted candidates in 16 of the categories meant for athletes, we have Enoch Adegoke who has won an award in two editions (2017 & 2018). Enoch made history at the Tokyo Olympics as he became the first Nigerian male athlete to reach the 100m final in more than a decade.
Timothy Onajite! A sensational home-based athlete, who performed excellently this season and broke the sub-50s on home soil, a feat that has been long coming – these are two nominees for the Athletic heat senior Athlete Award male category.
Ese Brume, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games, Tobi Amusan, the 2021 Diamond league 100m hurdles champion, Annette Echionuike, the current African record holder for the hammer throw event are some of the nominees for the Senior Athlete of the Year female category.
We also have the laudable Lauretta Onye and Flora Ugwunwa who were winners at the maiden edition, they are both Paralympic champions and nominees for the Para-athlete of the Year categories.
The shortlisted nominees have been selected for their outstanding achievements on the field of play, inspirational outlook and unparalleled dedication to Track and field, and also the para athletic sport.”
