Amusan, Ajayi & Okon set for key test ahead of World Championships

Nigeria’s track queen, Tobi Amusan, is set to return to the spotlight on Tuesday, June 25, at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, where she will compete in the women’s 100m hurdles. The reigning World Record holder, who recently clocked a blistering 12.24s at the Paris Diamond League her second fastest time ever heads into the race as the clear favorite. She leads a field that includes Ireland’s Sarah Lavin (12.62s PB) and Slovakia’s Viktoria Forster (12.72s PB), and will be aiming to sharpen her form ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. The race is scheduled for 5:35 PM Nigerian time.

Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian sprinters Ajayi Kayinsola and Isreal Okon are preparing for another big outing on July 12, when they take the track at the 28th Moore Guldensporenmeeting in Kortrijk, Belgium. Both athletes are fresh off strong performances at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships Ajayi setting an Auburn University record of 9.92s, while Okon matched his personal best of 10.07s. Their upcoming races will be vital in fine tuning speed and execution before the global showdown in September.
