The Nigerian men’s 4×100m quartet raised Nigerian hopes for a medal when they ran 39.41s a season’s best performance to win heat 2 of the Sprint relays.
They’d advanced to the finals with the third fastest time across all heats.
However things didn’t go as promised as they finished 5th in the finals yesterday running 39.78s.
South Africa won the finals defending their title in a blistering 39.06s but were later disqualified for a lane infringement, thus Japan was upgraded to the gold and Jamaica took the silver.
Not a bad outing for the Nigerians. They gave it their best shot but they just came out short.
