The inflow of Nigerian athletes into the United States of America isn’t a new thing as each year, athletes from Nigeria sign to various universities and colleges across the US.
This season, a handful of athletes have already arrived their schools in a bid to improve their athletic abilities, gain good education in an enabling environment and set themselves up for a better life.
Some of these athletes include reigning 200m National Sports Festival (NSF) Champion, Alaba Akintola who clocked a Personal Best of 20.51s to win the title, 400m hurdles Bronze medalist from NSF, Eloji Stephen, both athletes have arrived Middle Tennessee State University as freshmen.
100mh Bronze medalist from NSF, Thompson Miracle and Discus Gold medalist, Ebube Vincent have both arrived Cloud County Community College, Kansas while World Junior representative, Ashe Favour who is signed to University of Tennessee has arrived and he is “disturbing America”.
World U20 Javelin Bronze medalist, Nnamdi Chinecherem and WU20 400mh 4th place, Nathaniel Ezekiel have arrived Waco, Texas as they will begin their collegiate careers at Baylor University. They will be joining World Junior Champion, Nse Imaobong who got there immediately after the World U20 Championships last August.
Two sisters, Joy and Ada Nwokike secured scholarships to Eastern Kentucky University and Akron University respectively, Joy would be joining Charles Okeze who is a Graduate Assistant Coach on the track team while Ada has joined Fegor Clifford who is a sophomore at Akron University, Ohio.
MoC Duo, Kelechi Christain and Mercy Umaibong have also arrived the US to begin their collegiate careers.
It’s interesting to know that about 10 other athletes are set to sojourn to the States later this month to begin their collegiate careers.
