National Champion in the men’s 100m, Enoch Adegoke has been very consistent this season, winning his first National Sports Festival in April then went on to win his first National Senior Title in June where he hit the Olympic standard with a Personal Best of 10.00s.
He ran 10.06s in the heat prior to that race and Enoch was confident of breaking the 10s barrier.
His last two races prior to the start of the Olympics weren’t really fast as he clocked 10.36s and 10.27s but we were never in doubt about him when it comes to the big races. This season he has run 10.16/10.16/10.05w/10.06/10.00s.
Today, the 2018 Commonwealth Games finalist defeated a stacked 100m heat to take victor in a scorching 9.98s ahead of Nigerian-born Qatari athlete, Femi Ogunode (10.02s) and Zharnel Hughes (10.04s).
His compatriot, Itsekiri Usheoritse finished 3rd in his heat, clocking 10.15s behind Ronnie Baker (10.03s) and Jimmy Vacut (10.05s). Itsekiri is the reigning National silver medalist and he has a Season’s Best of 10.07s.
While the 3rd Nigerian to file out of the Men’s 100m, Divine Oduduru sadly got disqualified.
We can’t wait for what the semis and final holds for our Nigerians; Itsekiri and Adegoke
Good luck Champs!
