The African combined Youth and Junior championships 2023 ongoing in Ndola, Zambia on with the the Nigerian contingent claiming top spots across various events.
Djoma Fejiro, reigning National Sports Festival (NSF) champion has been phenomenal this season continuing her winning streak from where she left off last season.
This season, the talented youngster went over the 13m thrice during the national trials en route to this Championships.
Despite nursing an ankle injury, she was able to dig deep and with just two attempts, recorded a mark of 12.69m which was enough to claim gold. The first gold medal for team Nigeria.
The youngster right from the grassroots has shown immense talent and athletic prowess and would go on to do exploits for her nation.
Her compatriot competing for the junior category Oshiokpu Grace won the triple jump with a mark of 13.04m making a solid stance that the three phase event belonged to the Nigerians.
Grace, the Long Jump NSF champion has shown immense versatility in the Jumps and she’ll do much more better in the long jump where she’s more at home.
The high jumpers weren’t left off the script for the day 1 activities as both Fiaku Goodluck and Justin Jimoh both claimed bronze and silver for their respective categories.
The former scaling a height of 2.00m while the latter cleared a decent 2.05m.
