Favour Ofili showed up once again in spectacular fashion, clocking a brilliant 10.99s (+0.4) to win the women’s 100m at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge. Her time not only secured her qualification for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo but also made her the second woman in 2025 to break the 11second barrier. Ofili comfortably defeated Audrey Leduc of Canada (11.07s) and Liberia’s Thelma Davies (11.11s), continuing to build her momentum brick by brick ahead of a crucial summer season.
Shortly after Ofili’s race, fellow Nigerian sprinter Rosemary Chukwuma took to the track and dominated the next heat, clocking 11.27s into a strong -1.7m/s headwind. Despite the challenging conditions, Chukwuma’s commanding run further highlighted the depth and growing strength of Nigeria’s women’s sprinting contingent as major global competitions approach.
Meanwhile, in China, Tobi Amusan made an encouraging return at the Xiamen Diamond League, clocking a season’s best 12.74s to finish fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles final, a race won by Jamaica’s Danielle Williams in 12.53s. With these performances, Ofili, Chukwuma, and Amusan have all shown signs of rounding into top form, giving Nigeria strong podium hopes heading into the World Relays and beyond.
