Nigerian sprint legend Ogho Oghene Egwero is far from done. At 36, the veteran sprinter stormed to victory in the men’s 100m at the Jet Relays 2025 in Fort Worth, Texas, clocking an impressive 10.29s (4.3) Competing against collegiate athletes, Egwero showed he still has elite firepower in his legs a performance that not only stunned the crowd but reminded the track world of his enduring class.

A two time African champion, double All African Games silver medallist, and Olympian, Egwero has represented Nigeria on the biggest stages. From the World Championships in 2009, 2011, and 2013, to the World Indoor Championships in 2010 and 2016, and appearances at both the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, his resume speaks volumes. With a personal best of 10.06s in the 100m, first recorded in Maputo (2011) and matched in Brazzaville (2015), Egwero’s career has long been one of consistency and excellence.

Now, in 2025, he’s back on the track and showing glimpses of that same top end speed. For younger sprinters watching across the continent, this is more than a result it’s a signature. Egwero is not done yet. With this kind of form, the veteran may be brewing something special this season. It’s a serious wake up call, and a reminder legends don’t fade, they evolve.
