Oregon22: Tobi Amusan breaks African Record to qualify for semifinal  


Reigning African champion, Tobi Amusan, during the heat of the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing World Athletics Championship, Oregon, smashed her African Record again, clocking 12.40s, for the win. It is also the overall fastest time in the heats.

         This will be her third appearance at the World Championship. She was a semifinalist in London 2017, also finished fourth in Doha 2019, and now this year in Oregon. 

         Tobi Amusan who started off her 2022 season in April,  competing in the 100m and 100mH at Masked Rider Open, clocking a scorching Personal best of 11.11s and SB of 12.58s, over the hurdles. She proved her 11.1s wasn’t a fluke as she hit  11.14s, and 22.66s, over the 200m women later that month. 

She made progress to the African Athletics Championships, Cote d’Or National Sports Complex, St Pierre, where she represented Nigeria, in the 100mH women, defending her title in 12.57s. 

The Texas-based hurdler competed at Meeting de Paris, Stade Charléty, Paris, on 18th of June, where she clocked a massive African Record, an National record of 12.41s, It was really a great day for Amusan and Nigeria at Large. After that she made her stop at the Nigerian National Trials, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, where she ran an easy 12.67s, to win heat two of the Women’s 100mH, and she took the final in 12.54s.

And Presently, she’s at the World Athletics Championships, Oregon 2022, Hayward Field, Eugene, and yesterday, she clocked an easy 12.40s, breaking her African Record again, and making it look easier than ever before.

Tobi Amusan has had a very long season of hard work and consistency. Our hearts are with her as we wish her a podium finish.
