The premier sponsor of the Athletic Heat Athlete of the Week accolades, Yesir Foundation CEO, Asiwaju Temitope Alli rewarded National Triple Jump champion, Chidozie Kalu with a whopping 200,000 Naira to support his training towards the 2023 season.
Last season, Kalu won his First National Title at the Nigerian championships in June and went on to win the National Sports Festival Gold in December.
In 2022, Chidozie won the Athlete of the Week accolades TWICE, and he was the only homebased athlete who won the prestigious recognition twice during the season .
Oyeniyi Abejoye and Enoch Adegoke are past recipients of this reward. In 2019, Oyeniyi received N50,000 while in 2021, Enoch received N100,000.
Asiwaju Temitope decided to raise the bar a bit higher with an extra N100,000 and this was received with so much joy and excitement.
Speaking with athleticheat.com, Asiwaju said, “I’m really happy to put smiles on the faces of Nigerian athletes. I had always wanted to do athletics but never had the opportunity, so why don’t I support those who are excelling at it. It gives me joy.
“Kalu is an exceptional athlete, looking at his progress it shows he still has so much to give and this support is to further boost his morale this season.”
In response, Kalu thanked Asiwaju Alli and prayed for him.
“I’m very grateful for this opportunity to be selected as the recipient of this support. Thank you Athletic Heat for this platform and May God bless you sir for your support towards Nigerian athletes.
“I am really gingered to putting in my very best. This support will go into food stuff and help me stay focused more in training. God bless once again.”
Ese Oguma who facilitated the meeting thanked Yesir Foundation boss for his contributions towards the development of Track and Field in Nigeria through Athletic Heat and also encouraged Chidozie Kalu to keep being the best he can be as the season progresses.
