Athletic Heat is set to celebrate a decade of covering and promoting athletics with the Athletic Heat 10th Year Anniversary Pre-National Sports Festival Competition, scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex (YabaTech Stadium), Yaba, Lagos.
The one day athletics competition will serve as a pre-National Sports Festival meet, providing athletes with an opportunity to compete, test their form and build momentum ahead of the National Sports Festival.
After 10 years of telling the stories of athletes across Nigeria and Africa, Athletic Heat CEO Ese Oguma is taking another major step by bringing athletes together on the track and field for a celebration of the sport and the community that has supported the platform throughout its journey.
The competition will feature a wide range of track and field events across the men’s and women’s categories, as well as mixed relays.
Men:
100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 110m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, Hammer Throw and 100m U16.
Women:
100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 100m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Hammer Throw and Javelin Throw.
Mixed:
4x100m Relay and 4x400m Relay.
With events ranging from the sprints and middle-distance races to hurdles, jumps, throws and relays, the competition will provide athletes across different disciplines with an opportunity to compete on one stage and prepare for the National Sports Festival.
As part of its commitment to delivering a professional meet experience, Athletic Heat is partnering with Roaster Athletics for live results.
The partnership will allow athletes, coaches, fans and the wider athletics community to follow performances and results from the competition in real time.
Athlete registration for the competition will be powered by A3 Tickets, making the registration process easier and more accessible for athletes looking to compete.
The competition will be supported by a dedicated team of technical officials and meet personnel responsible for overseeing the organization and smooth running of the event.
Coach Olawale Olatunji will serve as the Technical Director of the Event, overseeing the technical direction and overall competition operations.
Coach Adebote Olalekan will serve as Meeting Manager / TIC Head, while Coach Olalekan Soetan will also serve as Meeting Manager / TIC, supporting the management and coordination of the competition.
Coach Michaelson Adewale will serve as Roaster Correspondent / LOC Secretary, contributing to the coordination and communications surrounding the meet.
On the track, Coach Otegbeye Funmilola will serve as the Overall Track Referee, overseeing track events and ensuring the proper conduct of competition.
Coach Ibrahim Friday will serve as the Overall Field Referee, overseeing the field events, while Coach Femi Daramola will serve as Jumps Coordinator / TIC, with responsibility for coordinating the jumps programme.
Representing the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Coach Olu Sule will serve as AFN Delegate / Chief Coordinator Meeting and Competition, providing coordination and oversight throughout the event.
Together, the team will play key roles in delivering a professionally organized competition and ensuring athletes have the best possible environment to compete.
The Athletic Heat 10th Year Anniversary Pre-National Sports Festival Competition represents more than a decade milestone. It is a celebration of a journey that has seen Athletic Heat report on athletes, competitions and performances while amplifying the stories of African athletes to a wider audience.
For 10 years, Athletic Heat has been telling the stories. Now, on November 7, it will create one of its own.
With the National Sports Festival approaching, athletes will have another opportunity to compete, prepare and make their mark, while Athletic Heat celebrates 10 years of being part of the athletics community.
Athletes looking to compete at the meet will be required to pay an entry fee of ₦3,000, which covers participation in two individual events
