Two-time national champion and 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships bronze medallist, Ebubechukwu Vincent Ugwoke, has announced his support for the Men’s Discus Throw at the Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet, scheduled for November 7, 2026, at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos, Nigeria.
Ugwoke, who has continued to make his mark in collegiate athletics, recorded a lifetime personal best of 63.89 metres to secure the bronze medal in the men’s discus throw at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The performance further underlines his standing among Nigeria’s leading discus throwers and adds to his growing list of achievements in the sport. He is also the second-best African discus thrower in 2026.

Announcing his support for the anniversary meet, Ugwoke expressed his excitement about the event and encouraged athletes and members of the athletics community to register and participate in what promises to be an important competition on the Nigerian athletics calendar.
He explained that his decision to support the Men’s Discus Throw goes beyond the competition itself, pointing to the importance of creating opportunities for private individuals to contribute directly to the funding and organisation of track and field competitions in Nigeria.
According to Ugwoke, the initiative represents a positive step towards building a culture in which individuals, athletes and other stakeholders can take responsibility for the growth and development of athletics by providing financial support for competitions.
He believes that giving private individuals the opportunity to sponsor events can serve as an example of what is possible when members of society come together to support the sport, helping to create more opportunities for athletes to compete, develop and showcase their abilities.
The Men’s Discus Throw will feature a prize structure designed to reward the leading performers, with ₦575,000 in total prize money available to the top four finishers.
🥇 1st Place — ₦250,000
🥈 2nd Place — ₦150,000
🥉 3rd Place — ₦100,000
🏅 4th Place — ₦75,000
The competition forms part of the Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet, which brings together athletes, supporters and stakeholders to celebrate a decade of impact while contributing to the continued development of track and field in Nigeria.
With the National Sports Festival approaching, the meet will also provide athletes with an opportunity to assess their preparation, fine-tune their performances and build competitive momentum ahead of the national competition.
Ugwoke concluded by wishing all participating athletes the best of luck, encouraging them to enjoy the competition, give their best performances and make the most of the opportunity to compete.
