Athletic Heat CEO Ese Oguma, a freshman at Iowa Western College, smashed the school record in the distance medley relay last weekend, alongside his teammates, Mohammed Kowa, Jacinto Gaspar and Steve Hines.
Oguma took the 400m leg of the 1200-400-800-1600m race, the team clocked 9:58.50s which becomes the 2nd fastest time in National Junior Collegiate history.
Prior to this magnificent performance by the team, only two colleges had run sub 10mins and the Iowa Western team pushes Central Arizona to third on the list while Range College remains Number 1 with 9:41.65s set 38 years ago.
Previously at Texas Relays, Oguma helped his team qualify for the NJCAA nationals in the men’s 400m, splitting 47.7s on the anchor leg to bring the baton home in 3:09.60s.
