The National Sports Commission (NSC) has given Bayelsa State the green light to host the 2028 National Sports Festival (NSF).
The announcement came after a courtesy visit to Yenagoa by NSC Director General, Chief Bukola Olapade, who led a powerful delegation including sports icons like Chief Solomon Ogba, Olympian Yusuf Alli, and other top officials.

After inspecting facilities ranging from medical centres, security infrastructure, wrestling gyms, and table tennis halls to the ongoing construction of an ultramodern 25,000 capacity stadium (expandable to 35,000), the NSC boss declared Bayelsa “even more ready to host the event today than the next host.”

Governor Douye Diri assured that Bayelsa is fully prepared:
‘’We are very prepared to host the National Sports Festival. The only issue we had was the facility, but we are addressing it. We’ve invested heavily in security and sports infrastructure, and Bayelsa is peaceful, hospitable, and ready to welcome Nigeria.”

Bayelsa, fondly called the Prosperity Land, has been making massive investments in grassroots sports from the Governor’s Prosperity Cup in football to thriving wrestling and table tennis programs, producing talents ready to shine on the national stage.
With this approval, history beckons as Bayelsa prepares to showcase its rich sporting culture to the entire nation in 2028.
