The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national sports federations seeking foreign technical expertise to strengthen their teams and improve Nigeria’s performance at international competitions.
The Commission’s Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, said the government was prepared to provide the necessary backing to federations that identify specific technical gaps and present a compelling case for foreign assistance.
Hon. Olopade explained that each federation must first assess its needs and determine where international expertise could make a meaningful difference before seeking government intervention.
He stressed the importance of having clear objectives and identifying the technical resources required to achieve them.
“Every federation must be clear about what it wants to achieve and the kind of technical support it needs. Once they can clearly identify those needs and make a strong case for them, the government, through the National Sports Commission, will be ready to throw its weight behind them,” Hon. Olopade said.
He cited the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as an example of a federation that had taken the initiative to seek foreign technical assistance, noting that the Commission supported its request for an international technical team for the Super Eagles.
Hon. Olopade said the decision reflected the importance of providing national teams with the expertise needed to achieve their competitive objectives.
“The NFF came forward with a request for foreign technical support for the Super Eagles, and we backed that decision because we understand the importance of getting the right expertise to help our national teams achieve their objectives,” he stated.
The NSC Director General also disclosed that the NFF had requested foreign technical support for the Super Falcons, assuring that the Commission was ready to facilitate the process without delay.
“Now that the NFF is requesting foreign technical support for the Super Falcons, we are ready and willing to hit the ground running. We want our national teams to have the best possible technical guidance, and where foreign expertise is required, we will give the necessary support,” Hon. Olopade added.
Hon. Olopade reiterated that the Commission remained committed to creating an enabling environment for national sports federations to strengthen their teams and compete effectively on the international stage.
He emphasized that the NSC would continue to work with federations to identify technical deficiencies and direct government support towards initiatives capable of improving performance and delivering measurable results.
The Commission’s position underscores its commitment to collaborating with national sports federations to strengthen technical capacity, improve team development and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness across sporting disciplines.
