Nigerian sprinter Usheoritse Itsekiri is gradually rounding into form ahead of the World Championships, clocking a Season’s Best (SB) of 10.07s (+1.5) to finish 3rd in the men’s 100m at the Bog Vigars Classic in Ontario, Canada. The race was won by Marcellus Moore, who dipped under 10 seconds for the first time with a blistering Personal Best (PB) of 9.96s, followed closely by Canada’s Eliezer Adjibi in 10.02s. Itsekiri’s time now ranks him as the 3rd fastest Nigerian man in the 100m this season, a strong sign of consistency and growth in his campaign.
Itsekiri had opened his season at the Johnny Loaring Classic in Ontario, where he registered a modest 10.22s before shifting focus to the 200m at the same meet. There, he ran a SB of 20.48s (+1.0), showing his versatility across the sprints. His upward trajectory continued just days later at the Royal City Inferno, where he dipped to 10.19s (+0.9) in the 100m heats, slowly edging closer to peak form. Each outing has seen measurable improvement, reinforcing that his training and race execution are aligning at just the right time.
With the World Championships looming, Itsekiri is hitting top speed when it matters most. The 2019 African Games medalist will be battling for a spot in the World Championships and the pressure of staying competitive in Nigeria’s stacked sprint scene, but 2025 seems to be offering him a resurgence, he’ll be looking to break into sub-10 territory and re establish himself as a serious contender on the global stage. If his current momentum continues, don’t be surprised if he makes headlines in Tokyo.
