Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet is fast approaching, and as part of the celebrations, we are naming selected events after some of Nigeria’s leading track and field athletes.
The men’s 100m at the prestigious meet will be named the Ajayi Kayinsola 100m Showdown, honoring Nigeria’s national record holder and one of the world’s fastest sprinters this season.
The naming carries special significance for Ajayi, who began his athletics journey at the Yabatech Sports Complex, the same venue where Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet will take place on November 7, 2026. The young sprinter also recorded some of the fastest times of his early career on the track.
Ajayi was present at the Yabatech Sports Complex for an unveiling recording for the event, where he announced his commitment to supporting the development of athletics in Nigeria by providing cash prizes for the top eight finishers in the men’s 100m at the meet.
Reacting to Ajayi’s gesture and the naming of the event, Athletic Heat CEO Ese Oguma expressed his appreciation.
“I’m very happy to have Ajayi Kayinsola named after this event. I didn’t see anyone else who could fit this title, not just because he is the national record holder, but also because of his connection to this track. Ajayi and I trained under Coach David Sule, and I’m glad to see how far he has grown. I would also like to say a big thank you to him for his donation as there hasn’t been any competition in Nigeria in recent years where Top 8 are awarded. So it’s a great development and a boost for the athletes.”
Ajayi has enjoyed a remarkable 2026 season, establishing himself among the leading sprinters globally and continuing to raise the profile of Nigerian sprinting on the international stage. His progression from a young athlete competing at Yabatech to becoming Nigeria’s national record holder represents the type of journey Athletic Heat hopes to celebrate through our 10th Anniversary Meet, as we bring together some of Nigeria’s finest athletes.
